Niagara University Notes: November 1, 2012

(November 1, 2012) – Niagara University returns to action this weekend, while one of its netminders receives an honor.   Here are some news and notes from NU…

Carsen Chubak was named Atlantic Hockey Goaltender for the month of October.  The junior led Niagara to a 2-2-3 record during the month of October, stopping 194 of 204 shots.  His goals-against-average of 1.64 ranks 12th in the nation.  The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan native also holds the ninth best save percentage at .951.

Also named this week’s AHA Goalie of the Week, Chubak opened the season with a 34-save effort in a 2-2 tie against Bowling Green in his first start since last October against Michigan in the 2011-12 season opener.  Chubak recorded his first shutout of the season and first of his career, in the 2-0 win over Clarkson on Oct. 26, making a career-high 44 saves.


The Niagara men’s hockey team hosts the UConn Huskies in AHA action  this weekend.   NU welcomes the  Huskies on Friday, Nov. 2, and hosts a second game between the sides on Saturday.  The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. both evenings.

The game will be broadcast on WJJL 1440 AM  radio and, with Jeremy White calling play-by-play.

The Purple Eagles are coming off a two-game series against Clarkson  last weekend, defeating the Golden Knights 2-0 on Friday, October 26 while drawing with their hosts 4-4 the following day, erasing a three-goaql deficit to force the tie.
