Lancaster Teachers, Media All-Stars to play for charity May 5

The Lancaster Central Teachers Association is getting ready to play some hockey for charity, and if last year’s event was any indicator it could be a well-attended affair… and a big money maker to benefit local young people in need.

The LCTA will face off against the Lantrax WNY Media All-Stars on Saturday, May 5 from 1pm to 4pm at Holiday Twin Rinks in Cheektowaga.  The Media All-Stars are made up of players
employed by local media outlets, including television and radio stations and print media.  Some of the past participants include well-known personalities including WKBW meteorologist
Aaron Mentkowski, while others on the team are the folks who work with the media personalities behind the scenes, including producers.

Last year, former Buffalo Sabres forward Andrew Peters skated with the Media All-Stars and brought along a camera crew to shoot highlights which were presented on the Time Warner Cable show “The Enforcers.”  It was unknown at press time if Peters will participate this year.

Last year’s event also drew an estimated 1,000 spectators who, in turn, brought cash which they spent on tickets, baked goods and raffles.  Proceeds will once again support the
Lancaster Youth Bureau’s School Supply Closet and Lancaster Food Pantry.  Last year, this event raised $5,800 for those causes.
